Wider Choice of Quality Games Needed for Blockchain Gaming to Grow

• Animoca Brands CEO Robby Yung has stated that a wider choice of quality games is needed to take GameFi, or blockchain-backed gaming, off the ground.
• Yung used the example of mobile gaming to illustrate how it took several years to reach a “critical mass” of available titles.
• Yung believes that the blockchain game space is still too nascent to attract mainstream users at this time.

Animoca Brands CEO Robby Yung recently spoke out on the need for the GameFi sector to have a wider selection of quality games in order to appeal to mainstream users. GameFi, or blockchain-backed gaming, allows gamers to earn monetary rewards and take ownership of items within games.

Yung brought up the history of mobile gaming as an example of how it took several years to reach a “critical mass” of available titles. He believes that the blockchain game space is still too nascent to attract mainstream users at this time. To make the most of the sector’s potential, Yung believes that a wider selection of quality games is needed.

Yung’s comments come at a time when the blockchain gaming space is rapidly growing. A number of major developers are beginning to create games which leverage blockchain technology, such as Ubisoft, EA and Take-Two Interactive. A number of smaller developers are also entering the space, creating games with more unique and creative gameplay mechanics.

However, Yung believes that there is still much more to be done in order to bring the masses into blockchain gaming. He believes that more high-quality titles are needed in order to make the sector attractive to mainstream users. He also noted that the sector needs to be more accessible and user-friendly, as many blockchain games still require a high level of technical knowledge in order to be played.

It is clear that the blockchain gaming sector is still in its early days and is yet to reach its full potential. Yung’s comments offer insight into what is needed in order to make the sector more appealing to mainstream users. With more quality titles, easier access and improved user-friendliness, blockchain gaming could become a major force in the gaming industry.
